Dr Fynn-Willem Lohe was elected Interim Secretary General at the CAEF Council meeting. He succeeds Mr Heiko Lickfett, who has served as Secretary General since early 2019 and steps back for health reasons.
Dr Fynn-Willem Lohe has been working for the Federal Association of the German Foundry Industry (BDG) in Düsseldorf for around two years and is head of the Business Administration Department. Dr Lohe, who holds a doctorate in business administration, has specialised in his research activities and in his previous career as a consultant in the field of small and medium-sized enterprises, which are characteristic of the European foundry industry. Through research stays in other European countries, the German-born economist acquired an international perspective at an early stage.
The new Secretary General’s priorities are to enhance visibility of the European foundry industry by living an active communication and to accompany the branch through the crisis in close international unity. After all, one thing has become impressively clear in recent months: Major global challenges can only be mastered within the community. The fatal consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic therefore were the focus of this year’s Council meeting. Like many sectors of industry and economy in Europe, the European foundries and their 300,000 employees are strongly affected by the consequences of the pandemic. It is gratifying that CAEF is bringing the national associations together, especially in these difficult times. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s Council meeting and the election of the Interim Secretary General did not take place as a face-to-face meeting. Instead, the representatives of the CAEF member associations held a virtual meeting.
